Crude oil price per barrel history

Prices are based on historical free market (stripper) oil prices of Illinois Crude as presented by Illinois Oil and Gas Association and Plains All American Oil. Typically Illinois Crude is a couple of dollars cheaper per barrel than West Texas Intermediate (WTI) because it requires a bit more refining. Oil prices have been high, low, and everywhere in between over the years. Political, economic, and other changes have consistently rocked the oil landscape since 1948. Prices generally ranged between $2.50 and $3.00 a barrel until 1970. That's about $17 to $20 a barrel when adjusted for inflation.
